U10 West Coach's Report - Round 1
Published: Thursday 19th April 2012 3:58 PM by HRAFCThe team got off to a great start to the year with a win against Malvern East. With a new coach and assistant coach the boys responded brilliantly to team instructions. In particular the set up at the ruck contests worked well with a ruck tap from Tom or Lucas going straight to Kuba, Lachie or Baxter P who would then kick forward. The strongest message from the coach was to ‘want’ to be first to the footy every minute of the match and Griff made sure he did this. He attacked the ball whenever he could and deserved the best player award. And you could hear the boys yelling for the ball from the boundary – they were so keen to get the ball. Even two first gamers in Jeremy and Finnigan (who scored a goal) looked like they had played one or two seasons and went hard for the footy, handling it with ease.
Seb also followed team rules by playing in front of his opponent, getting a goal and taking a few marks. Daniel gathered a number of possessions across the back line and Sam D the captain took a good mark in the third quarter. Ollie used his body well as did Brodie, who needed the trainer’s attention on one occasion after showing lots of courage. Flyn sped around packs with the ball and Tom played very well, scoring 4 goals. It was good to see Baxter T getting a few kicks, showing great improvement from last year and Thomas F using his fluent skills. Will made some good attempts to get the ball in the forward line and Luke and Sam B kept their opponents quiet.
All in all, a great team effort
