U9 Colts finish on strong at the Lightning Premiership
Published: Friday 30th July 2010 2:42 PM by HRAFCWell everyone what a great end to the season with the boys putting on a magnificent performance on Sunday.
I think if we told the kids that the next season starts this weekend they would be pretty happy and giving it a red hot go. Their efforts in the Lightning Carnival were superb. Winning that first game was such a lift for them and us – they played like a well bonded team. Singing the team song reinforced that feeling and even though we were against a tough team in Waverley for the second game Paul and I thought we might be a chance. And our kids made it reasonably difficult for them – it took most of the second half for Waverley to feel safe but we always looked like we might kick a decent score against them. Unfortunately losing that game cost us a chance of finals but to be honest, we couldn’t ask for three better games from our kids anyway.
Wasn’t the final game against St Pauls a real beauty? To see so many of the boys score a goal for the first time ever (including in the first game) put the biggest smile on theirs (and their parents) faces. I don’t think anyone would have come away from the day disappointed – all the boys got to play in a variety of positions and they all contributed in some way. Singing the team song after the last game was the perfect way to end the season.
Thanks to Caggs and Jacko for getting the barbie and heater transported and for the sensational breakfast and thanks to Phil for getting to the ground early to get the tent sorted. Thanks to all the parents – and the dads who acted as runner for the first time (I know you guys loved it!) – for your efforts in making the final footy day one to remember. I guess there really was another team operating behind the scenes.
Paul and I want to thank all of you for your support for the season. We have really enjoyed it – for those of you who have come to training on those cold nights and helped out, to those who are always cheering your boys on each week. We look forward to more fun next season.
See you all at the count 22 August.
