Brave U13 South give it everything
Published: Wednesday 14th July 2010 6:41 PM by HRAFCOn the last weekend off before everyone returned to school,14 brave players from the Rovers fronted up at Ludstone St to face Murrumbeena Maroon.A stiff wind was blowing but with many players unavailable it was always going to be a tough ask.
The game started well for the Rovers and for the first quarter we were behind by one goal.In the second quarter the dazzling speech given by the coach must have worked wonders as a new invigorated team emerged and through such great efforts and goals by Matt Foster and Lachie lemons and Nick Day had the Rovers in front by a goal at half time.Highlights of the second quarter were a fierce tackle by Matt Foster which left his opponent asking for mercy and some top football from Hamish Brayshaw repelling repeated attacks from the opposition.
Meanwhile in Canberra the Seismology Institute recorded a sizable earth tremor which originated in the Hampton area.it seems that Harry' the wiz' Potter tackled an opponent so hard that the earth shook and I think that a couple of my fillings were shaken loose. It was a fair tackle and the player from Murrumbeena on the receiving end was last seen asking which way the bus that hit him went.
Well after the half time break it seemed that the Rovers went to sleep and despite some great efforts in the back line by Alex R the Rovers were behind at 3/4 time, failing to score in that Quarter.Eden facey Smith was always looking dangerous around the half forward line and was unlucky not to score.Michael Riordan and Daniel terjung played their usual solid games and were always ready to tackle the opposition.
After 3/4 time Lachie scored another goal but the wind had gone out of the Rovers sails. As is the way of our team the boys never gave up and when the final siren sounded we had been defeated.Amongst our best players were Big Jim Kafritsas,Henry and Hamish, Lachie,Matt ,The Wiz ,Alex and Nick.next week we should be back to near full strength so watch out for the Rovers.
Winner of the coveted Coaches award was Eden Facey smith for an excellent game.
Final Scores were Hampton 5.3.33 to Murrumbeena 10.7.67
