Hampton Rovers was
one of the first local clubs to introduce a website, and was the
first VAFA & MSJFL club to do so. It has set standards from day
one, and continues to do so. A major milestone was being
announced as the most popular non-AFL club website in 2000 -
ranked by number of visitors. Since then, website traffic has
grown at a mammoth rate - in 2007, the site was visited 228,788
times (up from 131,806 in '06) and a total of 964,398 pages were
viewed (up from 719,527 in '06). Month by month stats can be
viewed in the members-only section.

2008
The
Hampton Rovers website has been completely re-designed for the 2008
season with a fresh new look, improved layout and many new features.
The site is now optimised for viewing on a 1024 x 768 or higher
display - the most common screen resolution. The main menu is now
located across the top of the site with a sub-menu making navigation
easier. Pages are now wider giving more space for content. Some new
features include ground details with satellite maps, head-to-head
results, improved news index and much more. We've also introduced Rovers Mobile - a site
optimised for viewing on mobile phones and other portable devices.
New features are to be added in the lead-up to the 2008 season.
2007
2006
The
Rovers website was given a slight facelift, a few sections were
improved including the fixtures section which now shows previous
results between the two teams (seniors teams only). A new
members-only page was also introduced.
The website was visited 131,806 times
with 719,527 page views.
2005
As well
as a new design in 2005, a online advertising system was also
introduced allowing advertising banners to be added offering
comprehensive stats.
The
website was visited 76,378 times with 450,734 page views.
2004
A new look in
2004 and many enhancements. The main addition was the new online
membership system. This allows users to subscribe to the site and
view members-only sections, receive the eNewsletter, and more. This
also allows, for example, full senior player stats to be only
accessible by senior players.
Members are able to view the members list
and view profiles of other members, see who's currently online and
browsing the site, and update their details.
Other improvements included a new links
section and improved history section.
2003
The bulk
of the work was done 'behind the scenes' in preparation for the 2003
season. The Rovers became the first local footy club to have a fully
database-driven dynamic website. The mySQL database manages all the
news, events, fixtures, results, goal kickers, best players, player
stats, and more. This resulting in making the site more efficient
and attractive.
2002
Again, a fresh
new design was implemented in 2002 along with a number of new
features. The site took on the look and feel of a more professional
website.
Limited database functionality was
introduced with the use of Microsoft Access for player
stats/profiles, goals and team lists.
2001
2001 saw another
new design for the site. Frames were removed and the general layout
of the site was improved.
After using free web hosts since the
commencement of the site, the club purchased the
hamptonrovers.com.au domain name and web hosting.
A number of new features were introduced in
2001, including the Forum - a message board which has become one of
the most popular features of the site.
2000
The new design
for the website in 2000 was quite a breakthrough for the time. The
site was given quite a professional look and made use of frames. A
number of new pages were introduced to provide visitors with
everything they need to know about the club.
All the hard work was worth it, as the site
was officially the most visited non-AFL club website in Australia
(source: Hitwise.com.au).
1997-1999
Unfortunately no images are
available of the original Hampton Rovers website.
Hampton Rovers
AFC were one of the first clubs in the country to develop a website.
The initial site of the Rovers went online mid way through the 1997
season. It contained about 5 pages. New pages were introduced in the
following 2 years however the basic site design primarily remained
the same during this period.

Rovers website is designed and maintained by CV Web Design: www.cvwebdesign.com
